New College’s Flexible Learning Centre at John Moulton Hall will be throwing its doors open for a drop in session on Tuesday 7th October from 9.30am until 11.30am.

Members of the public are invited to visit the centre to find out about the wide range of computing courses on offer, have a chat to the tutors and get answers to any questions they might have.

Over 20 people have taken courses at the centre since New College courses started  last April, with many of them learning new skills and gaining qualifications. One student who has had a life-changing experience at the centre is Craig Grant, Caretaker at John Moulton Hall.  Craig, who began a computing course at the centre last term, has recently set up a sideline business as a web designer. Craig commented: “I started an ECDL course at the centre because I wanted a qualification to back up the knowledge and skills that I already had.   “I really enjoyed the course; the tutors and other students are really friendly and helpful and there’s always a really good atmosphere at the centre.  I’m already planning my next course. “I’ve always wanted to have my own business so this is quite an exciting move for me.  I’m hoping the web design will really grow in the future.” For more information about the Open Morning, or the courses on offer at the Penhill Learning Centre, please call Vicky on: 0808 178 8632.

Clip (Community & Learning In Penhill) have recently appointed two learning assistants to work with adults who want to improve their English skills.  Amanda and Bob work in Penhill Learning Centre (at John Moulton Hall) on Monday and Thursday mornings.  They both have lots of experience in this work and have already made a big impression.  On Mondays they work with a tutor and those who don’t speak  English as their mother tongue. There are people from Thailand, Poland and Somalia in the group (three different countries from three different continents!). On Thursdays the group is made up chiefly of people who do speak English as their mother tongue but want to improve their reading and writing skills.  Bob and Amanda are also ready to meet and work with people in their homes. The one-to-one support they offer can make all the difference.  Pleas ring the Clip office (01793 723687) if you want to get in touch with either Bob or Amanda or call in to the Learning Centre between 9.30 – 11.30 on Monday or Thursday mornings.
